Rebecca DeMattia, LCSW-C, CC-TP, GC-C, owner and founder of Discovering Serenity Counseling Services, LLC, has over 17 years experience providing grief counseling services to individuals, families and couples. She provides counseling services to anyone experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, but specializes in grief counseling, including non-death related grief, traumatic deaths, and adjustment concerns related to terminal and acute medical diagnoses, as well as provides faith-based counseling. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and is currently pursuing her PhD in Social Work from Walden University.
Courtney Miller, LCSW-C, APC has provided mental health services for over 10 years with a focus on social and emotional wellness for children, adolescents, and adults. She specializes in providing counseling to support child and adolescent behaviors, those experiencing anxiety and depression, and working with the family system to resolve conflict. Mrs. Miller is knowledgeable about the public school system, special education services, and community resources. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an Advanced Professional Educator with an endorsement in School Social Work.
Elizabeth Zachik, LCPC comes to Discovering Serenity from multiple years of work and training at Johns Hopkins. Her clinical focus is on social and emotional wellness for children, adolescents, and adults with her specialty being in emotional and behavioral management with child and their families. She also has experience working with clients who have suffered from symptoms related to anxiety, depression, and trauma. Elizabeth received her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. She has worked for the University of Maryland, Catholic Charities, and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center throughout her internship and as a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor. Her most recent job at Johns Hopkins was as a school-based therapist where she provided therapy in two Baltimore City Elementary/Middle Schools.
Laura McKenzie, MS, LGPC comes with many years of experience partnering with children, adolescents and young adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral support needs to achieve their goals for life planning. She is a mother of four who understands personally the complexities of supporting individuals with mental health disorders. She is passionate about working with those in pursuit of personal and relational wellness. She has a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and continues in her role as transition coordinator at The Benedictine School.
Rani Gutting, LMSW, has extensive practice working with individuals struggling with mental health and substance use disorder, co-occurring disorders and the impact of substance use disorder on the family. She is a graduate from Salisbury University, where she obtained her Master of Social Work. Rani utilizes a client-centered approach, with a goal of creating an atmosphere of acceptance and safety. Each client is unique in their treatment needs, and requires an individual and holistic approach to their goals. By establishing a safe environment, the client and the provider can explore challenges and solutions where the client feels accepted, respected, and heard. Rani works with adolescents and adults experiencing symptoms related to anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use disorder, co-occurring disorders and grief.
Mary Jones, LGPC, NCC comes to Discovering Serenity with many years of working with youth, adolescents and families. She is a recent graduate with Masters’ Degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling from Walden University.
Ms. Jones is knowledgeable about the public school system and the community resources that are available. Her counseling focus is on the social and emotional wellness for children, adolescents and adults. She is committed to working with clients on achieving goals that are relevant to them and important in their healing journey.
Christina Dant, LCSW-C, joins Discovering Serenity with extensive experience in trauma recovery. She approaches psychotherapy from a psychodynamic foundation and is certified in several therapeutic approaches including Prolonged Exposure Therapy(PE), In Vivo Therapy, COPE, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy(CPT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Narrative therapy. Mindfulness is an important focus of her practice assisting clients with goals of improving coping skills, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation. Christina earned her MSW from University of Maryland School of Social Work and a licensed therapist for over 15yrs specializing in co-occuring substance abuse, mood and anxiety disorders, phobias, panic disorder with and without agoraphobia, PTSD, ADHD, Trauma, adult survivors of childhood sexual trauma and abuse, stress management, life coaching, anger management, career and work counseling, relationship issues, school/college issues, self-esteem boosters, cultural and gender empowerment, phase of life adjustment, chronic illness, and existential crisis.
